'I have bestowed upon you a parchment which contains a vision, nay an omen of the likes the world has never seen. I implore you to secret it. It must remain hidden for years innumerous. No-one must know of its existence. And it must not be destroyed. For someone will seek out its existence many years hence.'
Epic Fantasy Drama contemporary set in a small Scottish town called Inverkeithing. This town holds a 500 years old secret and one which could change the future of mankind..on earth and the hereafter.
The main protagonist's life is changed dramatically when repeated events occur within the space of 10 minutes. This is interwoven with the tales of three 'children' and a historical crossover explaining the events leading up to modern day.
It is a complex novel full of religious and philisophical meaning, the first of an epic trilogy which will take the readers on a journey unparalled in the world of modern day fantasy.
'Three will come my friend, but the third and last will be halved thrice'

I just loved this novel. Typically I do not gravitate towards the `fantasy' genre but it's really, in my opinion, best classified as `cult' as it's hard to define. The present day character is living a seemingly normal life when everything is thrown into turmoil. How this relates to the historical subplot and those of the `children' unfolds throughout the novel, and there's plenty of intrigue and surprise.
I like to be challenged when I read and this novel did that. It demanded my attention. But don't be put off by that; it does not mean that is a difficult read (in fact I could not stop reading it) or hard to follow at all, just don't expect the predictable, `poolside' paperback. I also like to read novels that not only have a great plot(s) but are well-written and I was not disappointed.
I agree with the other review that you can imagine the story played out on the big screen. All credit to the writing as I could visualise the scenes, including some shockingly violent ones that made me turn away from the page! There's a lot of dialogue in this novel and it's believable so I found a real affinity for the characters.
This is part of a trilogy and I don't know if the 2nd part has been written yet but I hope it's soon...

The Knowledge Book 1 The Children eBook David McWhinnie Reviews
This is a fascinating new work by David in which you are brought from the past, France in 1500's, to the present. I love the way he segues from history to present. It is flawless and without seams. the story keeps you guessing at every turn. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
